Former 76ers G League Prospect Lands With Lakers
The Los Angeles Lakers have been making some roster moves as they hit a bit of a rough stretch lately.
Shaking up their two-way picture, the Lakers added a veteran shooting guard in Skylar Mays.
Mays, a former member of the Philadelphia 76ers’ G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats, lands with his second team since departing from the East Coast.
Back in 2020, Mays entered the NBA draft after a multi-year stint at LSU. He was selected with the 50th overall pick by the Atlanta Hawks. As a result, Mays landed on the Hawks with a two-way contract and split time between Atlanta and College Park.
Over the course of two seasons with the Hawks, Mays made 61 appearances while averaging eight minutes on the floor. Although his two-way deal with Atlanta was converted into a standard NBA contract in 2022, he wouldn’t stick around.
In 2022, Mays joined the Blue Coats. During the regular season, he appeared in 13 games for the Sixers’ affiliate, averaging eight points, three rebounds, and four assists in roughly 19 minutes of action per outing.
In February of 2023, Mays was included in a trade, which made headlines in Philadelphia since the 76ers’ former first-round pick Jahlil Okafor was included.
By late March of last season, Mays inked a ten-day contract with the Portland Trail Blazers. Ahead of the 2023-2024 season, he landed a two-way contract in Portland, which eventually became a standard deal after the start of the season.
Last week, Mays found himself waived by the Blazers, but quickly landed on his feet as he was scooped up by the Lakers.
