Former 76ers Guard Mac McClung Finds Next Team
After representing the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2023 NBA Slam Dunk Contest, Mac McClung has found a new home in the league. On Tuesday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reported that McClung has agreed to a deal to join the Orlando Magic. Per the report, McClung’s deal is partially guaranteed.
McClung’s NBA journey has taken quite a long road so far. After two different stints in college with Georgetown and Texas Tech, McClung went undrafted in 2021. He started his career at the G League level, joining the South Bay Lakers.
Eventually, McClung got a call from the Chicago Bulls, splitting time with their G League affiliate and the main roster during the 2021-2022 season. After his one-game run with the Bulls, McClung joined the Los Angeles Lakers.
In addition to playing with the Lakers’ G League affiliate, McClung spent one game on the court with the Lakers during the 2021-2022 season. For his sophomore effort, McClung joined the Sixers’ G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats. Ahead of his Dunk Contest appearance, McClung signed a two-way deal with the 76ers.
Before making the leap to the main roster, McClung capped off his Dunk Contest win by helping lead the Blue Coats through the NBA G League Playoffs all the way to winning the title. Following his 2022-2023 G League run, McClung averaged 21 minutes across two games with the Sixers. During that time, he averaged 13 points, five rebounds, and five assists.
The Sixers replaced McClung’s two-way slot with a group of rookies. After spending the majority of the summer on the free agency market, McClung lands in Orlando ahead of training camp. He’ll have an opportunity to showcase his skills further on a young Magic team.
