After steadily improving over his first couple seasons, Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey has burst on the scene this year. Along with getting the first All-Star nomination of his career, one former champion made a bold take about him.

During a recent episode of Run It Back on FanDuel TV, Metta World Peace shared his thoughts about Maxey. He feels the Sixers star is the best player in the league and isn't getting the proper shine like some of his star-level peers.

"His engine, he's giving that energy on both sides. I got a soft spot for that," World Peace said. "He'll be a dominant figure. He's quietly one of the best players in the league. People are not talking about him like they're talking about other stars, and he's better."

Maxey showed the potential to be an electric scorer early on, and now it's on full display every night. As the Sixers' second option behind Joel Embiid, he is thriving as a three-level scorer. This season, Maxey is putting up averages of 25.8 PPG, 3.8 RPG, and 6.8 APG.

In recent weeks, Maxey has been called upon to lead the charge for the Sixers with Embiid out due to injury. He's delivered some big-time performances in this stretch. Most notably against the Utah Jazz, when he erupted for 51 points on 63% shooting in a win.

It's clear that Metta World Peace is extremely high on Maxey based on these comments. Best player in the league might be a bit of stretch, but there's no denying the Sixers guard has solidified himself as one of the top young guards in the league.
