Former Sixers Trade Target Lands With Clippers

Eric Gordon is on the move months after the Sixers attempted to trade for him.

The Houston Rockets are finally cutting ties with their veteran forward, Eric Gordon. According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Gordon has been traded to the Los Angeles Clippers.

Dating back to the summertime, Gordon was a popular trade candidate coming out of the Western Conference. At the time, the Philadelphia 76ers were interested in landing him before the 2022 NBA Draft.

After multiple reported attempts to take Gordon off of the rebuilding Rockets’ hands, the Sixers came up empty-handed in talks with the Rockets. Eventually, they pivoted and began talking shop with the Memphis Grizzlies. As the Sixers offered up their 2022 first-round pick to Memphis, they struck a deal to land De’Anthony Melton by trading away the pick along with the veteran sharpshooter Danny Green.

This season, Gordon appeared in 47 games for the Rockets. He started in every matchup, averaging 30 minutes on the floor. During that time, Gordon put up 13 points per game while knocking down 35 percent of his three-pointers on five attempts per game.

With Gordon Los Angeles bound, he joins a playoff contender where he might be able to boost their chances of making a run in the West. While the Sixers haven’t been in the market for Gordon for months, one of their most recent targets is now officially off the board an hour before the deadline takes place.
