How Serious Is Dewayne Dedmon’s Injury? Doc Rivers Discusses
Dewayne Dedmon has yet to make his debut with the Philadelphia 76ers this season, and he doesn’t seem to be on pace to take the court over the next couple of games.
After getting traded away from the Miami Heat to the San Antonio Spurs ahead of the trade deadline, Dedmon hit the free agency market after reaching a buyout with the rebuilding Spurs.
Not long after becoming available to join a new team, Dedmon agreed to join the Sixers on a one-year deal. Before the All-Star break, Dedmon linked up with his new team on the morning of their matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Although he suited up, Dedmon didn’t see any playing time. Last Wednesday, the Sixers returned to the court for a practice session after the break. It was the first full session Dedmon participated in.
Unfortunately, he started dealing with hip soreness after, which led to the Sixers adding Dedmon to the injury report for their matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies last Thursday.
Dedmon was questionable to play but was ruled out hours before tip-off. Two nights later, when the Sixers hosted the Boston Celtics, Dedmon was ruled out for the second-straight game.
Before Saturday’s game, Doc Rivers addressed the state of the veteran center’s setback.
“I hope [it’s a day-to-day thing],” said Rivers. “Obviously, we just signed him, so that would not be good if it's something [serious]. It doesn’t seem that serious, but we’re going to keep him out for another couple of games probably, then he’ll be back on the floor.”
Monday’s matchup against the Miami Heat will mark the third-straight game that Dedmon will miss. Judging based on Rivers’ latest comments, it might not be the last matchup he’ll miss either.
