Since demanding a trade, James Harden has spent minimal time around the Philadelphia 76ers. His status for the team's preseason finale is now unclear after missing his second-straight practice.

On Thursday afternoon, news broke that Harden wasn't in attendance for Sixers practice due to personal reasons. When he was absent earlier in the week, reports emerged that the All-Star guard was in Houston.

Following practice, Sixers coach Nick Nurse was asked about Harden suiting up in the preseason finale against the Atlanta Hawks. He did not give a clear answer but stated it's unlikely he makes his debut Friday.

“I think it’s unlikely that he plays tomorrow, but again, you never know what tomorrow morning will bring,” Nurse told reporters after practice. “We’ll see.”

Later on, Tyrese Maxey also fielded questions about his backcourt partner. He also mentioned personal reasons before shifting focus back on the team.

“It’s personal stuff that he has,” Maxey said. “We’re just focusing on who’s here right now…we’re trying to focus on getting better every day. Whoever’s in the gym. We got a job to do and the people that’s here, we’re focusing on.”

With Harden's status up in the air, Maxey will continue to be called upon to embrace a larger role. The rising star has been the team's starting point guard throughout the preseason.

Whether Harden is in the mix or not, the Sixers have one more game to prepare before the regular season gets underway. After their matchup with the Hawks on Friday, the next time they'll be in action is their season opener against Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks.
