Joel Embiid’s Initial Injury Report Status for Sixers vs. Thunder
Will this be the week the Philadelphia 76ers regain the services of their MVP-winning big man, Joel Embiid?
According to the injury report for the Sixers’ Tuesday night matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder, the star center is listed as out.
For months, Embiid has been dealing with a setback related to his meniscus. After seeing his night against the Golden State Warriors cut short on January 30, the star center underwent a corrective procedure to ensure he’ll heal and be ready for a potential playoff push.
Since Embiid went down, the Sixers have struggled to maintain their status as one of the Eastern Conference’s top contenders. At this point, they’ve fallen five spots in the rankings, sitting in the eighth seed with a 40-35 record.
If the season ended today, the Sixers would find themselves in the NBA Play-In Tournament for the first time, taking on the ninth-seeded Chicago Bulls.
Philly still has a handful of games left on the schedule. Following their Tuesday night matchup against the Thunder, the Sixers will end the year with a stretch against the Miami Heat, Memphis Grizzlies, San Antonio Spurs, Detroit Pistons, Orlando Magic, and the Brooklyn Nets.
With a couple of weeks left to go, the Sixers have plenty of time get Embiid back on the floor working on developing a chemistry with some of the team’s recent additions. While it will be a work in progress, the Sixers will instantly become more challenging, as Embiid left the court as one of the most dominant players in the game.
