Joel Embiid Earns Third Weekly Honor of the Season
While Joel Embiid hasn't had the easiest start to the new year, missing three games throughout January so far, in the games that he has been a part of, he's been electric.
That hasn't been any clearer than in his three games last week when Embiid put up monterous performances in each match.
To start the week off, the Cameroonian superstar surged for a dominant 41-point outing against fellow MVP candidate Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets, helping lift Philadelphia above the reigning NBA champions.
Embiid would go on to follow up that outing with a 36-point offensive masterclass against the Orlando Magic, doing do on 54 percent shooting, while also grabbing seven rebounds.
While his last performance of the week saw the 28-year-old put up his lowest scoring tally with 33 points, it also proved that he isn't just an offensive player as Embiid secured ten rebounds, nine of which came on the defensive end, while also blocking three shots.
Given that his average stat line over this three-game set featured 36 points, eight rebounds, and five assists per game, Embiid was awarded the Eastern Conference Player of the Week.
It marks the third time this season that the 28-year-old has received the honor while remaining on the hunt for his Player of the Month after he was named it on three separate occasions last season.
In the Western Conference, Kevin Durant was given the honor, having put up 31 points, six rebounds, and two assists per game last week.
