Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey Duo Notches 76ers Record vs. Magic
The two-man duo of Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey continues to cook for the Philadelphia 76ers.
On Friday night, Embiid and Maxey once again showed that their growing chemistry on the court is getting put to good use as they each scored over 30 points against the Orlando Magic.
Mark that down as the eighth time this season that Embiid and Maxey each hit 30-point showings in the same game, which breaks a franchise record.
Philly legends Wilt Chamberlain and Hal Greer had joint 30-point outings during the 1965-1966 season on seven occasions. Maxey and Embiid beat out that record within the first 40 games of the 2023-2024 NBA season.
In 33 minutes of action on Friday night, Maxey put up 20 shots from the field, finding success on 50 percent of his attempts. He launched ten shots from beyond the arc, knocking down four of them. Maxey also found frequent trips to the free throw line and collected eight points off of his nine attempts. He finished the game with the second-highest scoring total, collecting 32 points.
Meanwhile, Joel Embiid’s dominant scoring was on display once again. As he continues to lead the NBA in points per game for the third-straight season, the big man produced above his season average in Orlando by scoring 36 points in under 31 minutes of action.
The reigning MVP shot 12-22 from the field and knocked down all 11 of his free throws. Embiid and Maxey combined for 68 points as they took down the Magic with ease, collecting a 124-109 victory.
With that win, the Sixers improved their record to 27-13 on the year. They remain in the Eastern Conference’s third seed, on the heels of the 28-13 Milwaukee Bucks.
