After the Philadelphia 76ers knocked off the Indiana Pacers, Joel Embiid sat at his locker with his phone in his hand, firing off a social media post in support of his teammate, Tyrese Maxey.

Posting a picture of Maxey and himself shaking hands on the court, Embiid captioned the photo with his nickname for the former first-round pick.

“THE FRANCHISE,” Embiid wrote “#50.”

Embiid’s post came following a career night by Maxey. Entering Sunday’s matchup against the Indiana Pacers, Maxey was already off to a stellar start to the year, but he upped the ante.

In the first half of action, Maxey went 10-16 from the field in 19 minutes of action. He went into halftime with 25 points. Although he trailed Embiid, who had 26 points of his own, the second half turned into the Maxey show as he continued firing.

Putting up 16 more shots in the second half, the back-end of Maxey’s performance was nearly identical to his first-half showing. Knocking down ten more shots, Maxey tacked on another 25 points. He notched a new career-high in scoring when he reached 45 points in the fourth quarter. He finished the night with 50 total.

The high-scoring total was impressive. The efficiency with which Maxey did this made it so much better. Overall, Maxey hit over 60 percent of his shots from the field. From deep, he knocked down 63 percent of his threes, attempting over ten on the night.

All season long, the Sixers preached aggressiveness to Maxey, encouraging him to shoot more. He stepped up to the plate this season and is budding into a potential All-Star while making his MVP-winning teammate proud.
