Multiple Sixers Praise Jaden Springer Following Impressive Preseason
This preseason, one of the biggest standouts for the Philadelphia 76ers was Jaden Springer. After spending the vast majority of his first two years in the G-League, the young guard looks ready to compete for minutes at the NBA level.
Springer appeared in all four preseason games for the Sixers and averaged 10.3 PPG, 3.8 RPG, and 1.3 SPG. What stood out most, aside from his relentless defense, was his extremely efficient three-point shooting. Albeit on low volume, Springer connected on 87.5% of his attempts from beyond the arc.
Following the preseason, multiple members of the Sixers spoke out on Springers' impressive play. First up was rising star Tyrese Maxey. Along with praising Springer for his defense, he's also continuing to push him to shoot open threes when they come his way.
"What he brings on the defensive end is special, and now he's finally starting to shoot them open threes I've been asking him to shoot. It's been great," Maxey told reporters Friday.
One person on the Sixers who can appreciate Springer's style of play is Patrick Beverley. The veteran guard has made a career of being a hard-nosed defender in the backcourt and now can be a good mentor to the young prospect.
Following practice on Monday, Beverley was asked what has stood out most to him from Springers' game. He said he's been most impressed by the time he's put in to continue growing his game.
"Two months ago I showed up to UCLA and he had been there," Beverley said. "I think with that attitude and with that discipline of sacrificing his time away from his family. His time from his personal agenda, putting it all in the team, all in basketball. Nothing but good stuff happens from that. If it's one thing I'm impressed by it's his sacrifice to this team."
With the start of the regular season just days away, only time will tell if Nick Nurse has seen enough to give Springer an opportunity for rotation minutes.
