Joel Embiid Misses Second-Straight Practice on Wednesday
The Philadelphia 76ers took the practice floor for the second-straight day on Wednesday morning. Although the Sixers remain unsure of who they will play in the second round after sweeping the Brooklyn Nets over the weekend, the team is staying prepared for the next seven-game series.
Not knowing who they will face isn’t the only question mark surrounding the Sixers right now. With Joel Embiid dealing with an LCL sprain, the Sixers seem unsure whether or not Embiid will be ready to play in Game 1 of the Sixers’ second-round series.
On Tuesday, Doc Rivers revealed that Embiid was not a participant at practice, although the big man was present for the film session and did some work in the training room after the practice.
“There isn’t any update yet other than the update we gave ya’ll a couple of days ago,” Rivers said on Tuesday. “We won’t know anything for at least a couple of days.”
On Wednesday, Rivers didn’t have any new update to offer other than the fact that Embiid could do “a little shooting” while the team practiced, per NBC Sports Philadelphia's Noah Levick.
Embiid and the Sixers are set to re-evaluate at some point this week. By then, the team hopes to have a better idea of when Embiid can return to action and whether or not he’ll have to sport a brace during the second round.
With the Atlanta Hawks defeating the Boston Celtics in Game 5 on Tuesday night, the Sixers bought some time before the start of the second round. Had the Celtics closed out the series in five games, the Sixers would’ve been set to begin the second round on Saturday.
Now, the start date has been pushed back to next Monday. While a few-day delay likely won’t make a significant difference for Embiid, additional days of rest are always a plus for the big man and the entire Sixers team in general.
