The Philadelphia 76ers will begin a new week with their third preseason matchup of the year. On Monday night, the Sixers are set to pay a visit to the Brooklyn Nets.

The matchup serves as a first-round playoff rematch for the two organizations. Back in April, the Sixers hosted the Nets for two matchups to begin the playoffs. At the time, the new-look Nets entered the Eastern Conference playoff picture as the sixth seed.

Philadelphia took care of business at home, going 2-0 before hitting the road. In Brooklyn, the Nets had a significant advantage in Games 3 and 4. During the first game, James Harden was ejected midway through the matchup. In the second game, Joel Embiid didn’t play, due to suffering an injury.

Despite being shorthanded in both battles, the Sixers came out on top. With a series sweep, they went on to face the Boston Celtics in the second round of the playoffs.

On Monday, the Nets will get another chance to sharpen up after going through major mid-season changes last season. While they won’t face a full-strength Sixers team, Brooklyn and Philadelphia get a look at their division rival one time before the games count towards their records.

Game Notes

  • The Sixers will be without James Harden, Joel Embiid, Furkan Korkmaz, and Danuel House Jr. Monday marks the third straight game Harden, Embiid, and Korkmaz will miss this preseason.
  • Brooklyn isn’t expected to have Mikal Bridges, Dennis Smith Jr., Cam Johnson, and Dariq Whitehead.
  • Nic Claxton and Day’Ron Sharpe were listed as day-to-day by Nets head coach, Jacque Vaughn. However, Claxton will play.
  • The Sixers have been winless throughout the preseason so far. While they played the Boston Celtics twice while shorthanded, Philly’s reserves struggled to close the game out.
