Nick Nurse, 76ers Expected to Add Sacramento Kings Coach
Changes continue to happen on the Philadelphia 76ers’ coaching staff. As always, when a new coach takes over a team, the group of assistants change over as well.
On Sunday, it was reported that the Sixers are adding former Sacramento Kings assistant, Bobby Jackson, according to ESPN Sacramento’s James Ham.
Jackson got his start in the NBA as a player. During the 1997 NBA Draft, he was selected by the Seattle SuperSonics out of Minnesota. Jackson played his rookie season for the Denver Nuggets before getting traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
He made his name during his time with the Sacramento Kings from 2000 to 2005. From then on, Jackson had stints with the Memphis Grizzlies, New Orleans Hornets, and the Houston Rockets. In 2008-2009, Jackson finished his playing career with another stint in Sacramento.
Two seasons after retiring from playing, Jackson landed a job with the Kings as an assistant coach. In 2021, Jackson was named the head coach of Sacramento’s developmental organization, the Stockton Kings.
Over the span of 65 games, Jackson’s Kings achieved a 40-25 record. In the playoffs, the Kings had one matchup, which resulted in a loss. Jackson becomes the first reported coach to join Nurse’s staff in Philadelphia. The Sixers hired Nurse a couple of weeks back to replace Doc Rivers after three seasons.
Since Nurse took over, the Sixers have reportedly lost multiple top assistants. Sam Cassell is expected to join Joe Mazzulla’s staff on the Boston Celtics, while Dan Burke is expected to join Monty Williams on the Detroit Pistons.
