Orlando Magic Officially Sign Former Sixer Mac McClung
For months, it’s been apparent that the Philadelphia 76ers would not move forward with Mac McClung. Considering the Sixers filled up their three two-way slots with incoming rookies, the Slam Dunk Champion was free to explore a new opportunity in free agency.
A few weeks back, it was reported the Orlando Magic planned to bring on McClung on a partially guaranteed deal. On Wednesday, Orlando made it official with an announcement. According to Magic President of Basketball Operations Jeff Weltman, McClung is officially a member of the Magic.
To ensure that McClung can play for the Magic’s NBA G League affiliate, the young veteran’s rights were moved in a swap on Wednesday. In exchange for McClung’s G League rights, the Blue Coats have acquired the returning player rights to Jeff Dowtin and a second-round pick via Motor City in the NBA G League Player Draft.
Although McClung didn’t get much action on the main roster with the Sixers, he created quite a buzz in 2022-2023. As McClung was set to become the first G League player to participate in the NBA’s Dunk Contest, the Sixers signed McClung to a two-way deal.
Shortly after being the first Sixer to win the Dunk Contest, McClung helped lead the Delaware Blue Coats to the NBA G League Finals. Although Delaware came up short in the big game twice over the last couple of seasons, the Blue Coats won the title in 2023.
McClung then managed to play in two matchups for the Sixers, averaging 21 minutes on the floor, putting up 13 points and five assists per game. Now, the third-year high-flying standout will get an opportunity to carve out a role for himself on a young Magic team.
