Philadelphia 76ers Offer Official Medical Update on Kelly Oubre
On Saturday night, the Philadelphia 76ers released a statement confirming that their 27-year-old veteran wing, Kelly Oubre, had been struck by a car in Center City.
At the time of the official update, the team mentioned he was in stable condition and being treated at a local hospital. Shortly after, it was confirmed Oubre was released from the hospital.
On Sunday, the team offered its first update since the incident took place. According to Sixers officials, Oubre was diagnosed with a fractured rib.
An initial report on Saturday night from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski stated while Oubre’s injuries are not expected to end his 2023-2024 NBA season, he is expected to miss “significant time.”
Currently, there is no timeline for Oubre’s return, but he will be re-evaluated in one week, according to Sixers officials.
The veteran forward will now focus on his recovery, working towards a potential return later on down the line.
This season, Oubre joined the 76ers on a one-year deal. The Sixers pursued the offensive standout for multiple months following his two-year run with the Charlotte Hornets. After taking some time to collect his thoughts and reset, Oubre agreed to join the Sixers for the 2023-2024 run.
The veteran was off to a great start to the year. At first, he was playing a reserve role, establishing himself as one of the Sixers’ key bench players in the rotation. After the Sixers shook up the roster with a trade three games into the year, Oubre benefitted by receiving a promotion to the starting five.
In five of the Sixers’ first eight games, Oubre started for the 76ers. He was off to a stellar start, shaping up to be one of the most valuable offseason signings in the NBA. Unfortunately, Oubre has a road of recovery ahead, but he’ll receive plenty of support from the Sixers’ organization as they work on making sure he is healthy in general.
