Philadelphia Eagles Star Wants 76ers to Bank on Tyrese Maxey
As the Philadelphia 76ers’ fan base debates over which stars they want their team to have next season, one Philadelphia Eagles star had a suggestion of his own.
Super Bowl hero Brandon Graham didn’t have a call scheduled with a local radio station earlier this week, but he felt he needed to get some Sixers-related thoughts off his chest.
Therefore, Graham called into 94 WIP to offer his thoughts on a potential Bradley Beal trade to the 76ers, disagreeing with the notion that Philadelphia should give the Washington Wizards All-Star a look.
“You got a young player in Maxey, but you got to take the emotion out of it,” Graham told the station’s hosts, Jon Marks and Ike Reese. “I heard y’all say you can get more picks. I know the cap is low on who you can get. Bradley Beal, you got to think about the age difference between Maxey and him. Maxey, I feel like, man, give him a real chance. It’s all about the patience people want to have with certain players. Taking the emotion out of it, we are going to do what is best for the team, as always. We know that as players. Maxey, man, I like him a lot.”
For what it’s worth, the Sixers’ connection to Beal this offseason has been nothing more than the team reportedly not being interested in the Wizards star. While Beal could bring All-Star experience and dominant scoring to the table if the Sixers were to lose James Harden in free agency, Beal’s contract has been a real concern across the league.
And in Graham’s opinion, the Sixers should instead unleash Maxey and see what they truly have in the soon-to-be fourth-year guard out of Kentucky.
So far, Maxey’s run with the Sixers has been somewhat of a pleasant surprise. After he was initially expected to be a lottery selection out of Kentucky, Maxey slid down to the early 20s, where the Sixers were ready to take him for a steal of a pick.
Although Maxey’s rookie season didn’t feature a ton of opportunities for the young guard since he averaged just 15 minutes on the court in 61 games, he became a full-time starter during his sophomore effort. In 75 games, Maxey averaged 18 points while hitting on 43 percent of his threes.
Last season, he started in 41 of 60 games, averaging a career-high 20 points while hitting on 43 percent of his threes during an average of 34 minutes on the floor. While Maxey has played third fiddle to Joel Embiid and James Harden over the last two seasons, the young guard has shown some excellent second-star potential.
There is a high chance the Sixers get James Harden back for next season. If they don’t, other avenues will be explored. Regardless of what happens, the Sixers have high hopes for Maxey continuing to develop into a core player for their franchise. And BG hopes they do what they can to maximize his potential moving forward.
