Sixers Announce Roster Move After Win vs. Miami Heat
Following their big win over the Miami Heat on Thursday night, the Philadelphia 76ers made an announcement regarding a new roster move.
According to the team’s President of Basketball Operations, Daryl Morey, the Sixers signed the veteran Jeff Dowtin Jr. to a standard NBA contract. Now, Dowtin will remain with the 76ers for the remainder of the 2023-2024 NBA season, becoming playoff eligible.
Although Dowtin was with the Sixers in some capacity since November, he didn’t officially join the team until early March. Following a multi-month run with the Sixers’ NBA G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats, Dowtin signed a two-way contract with the Sixers.
Unlike most two-way players, Dowtin has multiple seasons of experience under his belt. After going undrafted in 2020, he got his start in the G League. During the 2021 season, Dowtin inked a two-way deal with the Golden State Warriors.
Dowtin’s next NBA experience came in 2022, when he joined the Milwaukee Bucks on a 10-Day deal. After that expired, he joined the Orlando Magic on a temporary contract as well.
One move that prepared Dowtin better for his future would be his opportunity to join the Toronto Raptors last season. At the time, Nick Nurse was the head coach of the Raptors.
Following the 2022-2023 season, Nurse and the Raptors parted ways. Amid Nurse’s first season as the head coach of the Sixers, he reunited with Dowtin. So far, Dowtin has seven games under his belt with Philadelphia.
During his stint with the Sixers, Dowtin has averaged 12 minutes on the floor. During that time, he drained 55 percent of his shots, scoring 4.4 points per game. With the Delaware Blue Coats’ season coming to an end, Dowtin will get an opportunity to re-join the 76ers for their final stretch of the regular season. With Dowtin signing a standard deal, he’ll stick around for a possible playoff run.
