After finishing the 2023-2024 regular season with a 47-35 record, the Philadelphia 76ers landed seventh in the Eastern Conference. As a result, they had to win in the NBA Play-In Tournament in order to get into the 2024 NBA Playoffs.

On Wednesday, the Sixers welcomed the Miami Heat to South Philly for the battle of the seventh seed. The winner would punch their ticket to the postseason, while the loser gets another shot to take the eighth seed on Friday.

Fortunately for the Sixers, they took care of business on Wednesday night.

In a tight matchup that went down to the wire, the Sixers managed to put the Heat away with a 105-104 win.

With the Sixers putting the Heat away for the third time this season, they are locked into a first-round series with the New York Knicks, which will begin on Saturday, April 20, 2024.

With the Knicks wrapping up the season with the second-best record in the Eastern Conference, they’ve secured home-court advantage over the Sixers in the first round. The first two games will take place at Madison Square Garden.

This season, the Sixers have struggled to find success against the Knicks. When the two teams first met on January 5, the Knicks handed the Sixers their worst loss of the season at that point. With a 128-92 victory, the Knicks put the East on notice with a dominant performance against a Joel Embiid-led Sixers team.

Over a month later, the two teams met again in South Philly. The Sixers struggled to find success while shorthanded. After getting issued a 110-96 loss, the Sixers lost two games in a row against New York for the first time since the 2021-2022 season.

Last month, the Sixers paid the Knicks a visit for two-straight games at MSG. Despite competing without Embiid, the Sixers managed to grind it out and find themselves on the right side of a low-scoring matchup, which resulted in a 79-73 victory over New York.

Unfortunately, the Sixers couldn’t find success in the follow-up matchup. Once again scoring just 79 points, the Sixers let up 106 to the Knicks, losing the regular season series 1-3.

This weekend, the 76ers will search for revenge as they are set to take on their Atlantic Division rival for a seven-game series to kick off the playoffs.
