Multiple star guards across the league are on the NBA’s trade block. Portland Trail Blazers’ Damian Lillard and Philadelphia 76ersJames Harden are by far the most notable prospects in that category.

However, Miami Heat sharpshooter Tyler Herro could find himself donning a new uniform sooner than later, as his name has been kicked around in the Lillard rumors many times throughout the offseason.

When the Blazers and the Heat initially fired up talks surrounding the seven-time All-Star, Portland and Miami were discussing a two-team deal.

In the event they struck a move, Herro would’ve likely been on his way to Portland and out of the Eastern Conference.

But Portland hasn’t been too impressed with the package that the Heat put on the table, which has caused Lillard to go untraded. At this point, the talks are gaining steam once again, but it certainly doesn’t seem guaranteed Lillard lands in South Beach.

And even in the event Lillard does head to the Eastern Conference Champions, it could be a multi-team blockbuster deal.

Once again, Herro is a key piece that could find himself in the middle of the deal. According to Yahoo Sports’ Jake Fischer, there are several direct contenders of the Sixers that have their eyes on Herro. While it initially seemed Herro would leave the East once the Lillard saga sees its conclusion, there are more teams in the East who have their eyes on the former Sixth Man of the Year.

Who’s Looking at Herro?

Before we get to the Eastern Conference suitors, we’ll mention the Utah Jazz as a squad that reportedly likes Herro.

This past year, Utah has made some very key changes, notably trading away their two franchise players, Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell.

Utah missed the playoffs in 2023, but they showed promise for the future after finishing 37-45. With young standouts such as Lauri Markkanen, Collin Sexton, and Walker Kessler, along with the seasoned veterans Jordan Clarkson and John Collins, the Jazz could be a sneaky decent team in the West if they are able to acquire Herro without giving up a ton.

Beyond the Jazz, the Charlotte Hornets, Chicago Bulls, and Brooklyn Nets are labeled as interested in Herro. For the Sixers, none of those organizations would pose a significant threat if they were able to get their hands on the former Kentucky guard.

The Bulls and the Nets are closer to contention than Charlotte, but Herro might not be a big enough swing to make either team significantly better. That’s not a knock on the former Sixth Man of the Year, but the reality is that the Heat found their surprising postseason success last season in the absence of Herro, who was recovering from an injury he suffered in Game 1 of the first round series against Milwaukee.

After several days of the Lillard saga heating up once again, no deal came to fruition. With Portland setting a soft deadline to make their big move before training camp, we could see some more movement on the Lillard front this week, which could mean a change of scenery for Herro as well.
