Sixers' Brett Brown will coach Australia in 2020 Olympics
Next year, Philadelphia 76ers head coach Brett Brown will take on an extended workload beyond coaching Philadelphia's pro basketball team. Along with leading the Sixers, Brett Brown will join the Australian Men's Basketball Team once again to coach them during the 2020 Olympics.
This isn't Brett Brown's first go-round with the Australian Men's Basketball team. Back in 1995, Brown got his start with the team by serving as an assistant until 2003. By 2009, the former San Antonio Spurs assistant returned and served as Australia's head coach for the next four years. His final season occurred during the 2012 Olympic Games, which was held in London.
At the time, Australia made it to the quarterfinals before getting eliminated by Team USA, who then went on to win it all.
According to ESPN NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski, Brown and his representatives were ironing out the details on Tuesday morning.
Next year will mark the third stint for Brown on the Australian team's coaching staff. Perhaps, next season, he will have one of his current budding NBA stars available to join him as well. Sixers' point guard, Ben Simmons happens to be an Australian native, who actually intended to join the Australian team during this past summer.
Unfortunately, those plans fell through as Simmons wanted to not only remain healthy but also work on further developing his game ahead of the 2019-2020 NBA season. Maybe with Brown running the show once again, Simmons will consider suiting up for the Aussies next summer to continue his player-coach relationship with Brown on a different scale.
