Sixers News: James Harden Receives Max Fine for Recent Comments
James Harden’s recent controversial comments aimed at Philadelphia 76ers President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey will be coming with a price to pay.
On Tuesday morning, Bleacher Report’s Chris Haynes reported that Harden is “on the cusp” of receiving a substantial fine by the NBA for his comments directed at Morey.
Last week, Harden visited China and set social media on fire with his comments regarding Morey. As Harden alleged that Morey was dishonest this offseason, it left the league curious about where Harden’s frustration stemmed from.
Later in the week, reports indicated that the NBA would investigate Harden’s comments. Many believed that the NBA’s previous investigation into Harden and the Sixers could play a part in the new investigation. Last summer, some around the league speculated that Harden and the Sixers agreed to a “wink-wink” contract after Harden signed a discounted deal to return to Philadelphia.
Although the NBA found wrongdoing on the Sixers’ behalf in separate investigations, which involved two different scenarios of tampering, the league did not find any evidence regarding an off-the-books agreement between Harden and the Sixers.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Harden privately confirmed that his comments were not about a contract agreement. Rather, he was speaking about Morey and the Sixers’ decision to close down trade talks after failing to agree to a deal with the Los Angeles Clippers.
As a result, Harden has a fine headed his way. The NBA will fine Harden $100,000 for his comments aimed at Morey, the league announced. Perhaps the latest phase of the saga could cause the ten-time All-Star to prevent speaking about the situation further ahead of training camp.
