It’s been a couple of years since the Philadelphia 76ers have had two representatives in the NBA All-Star Game. The last time the Sixers had two invites was back in 2022 when Joel Embiid landed his fifth selection and was joined by Ben Simmons, who picked up his third selection.

Last season, the Sixers hoped to send both Embiid and James Harden to the big game, but the ten-time All-Star guard couldn’t garner his 11th bid. Therefore, Embiid went alone for the first time since the 2017-2018 season.

This year, Embiid is set to represent the Sixers in the All-Star Game for the seventh year in a row. To no surprise, he was named one of five Eastern Conference starters on Thursday night, just as the Sixers were gearing up to tip-off against the Indiana Pacers.

Embiid will be joined by Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo, Boston’s Jayson Tatum, Indiana’s Tyrese Haliburton, and Milwaukee’s Damian Lillard.

While Maxey wasn’t voted in as a starter this season, he has a good chance to land a bid as a reserve potentially.

This week, the NBA finalized the fan returns, which account for 50 percent of determining the rosters. Out of ten guards, Maxey ranked sixth, with 1.4 million votes. The Sixers’ guard trailed New York’s Jalen Brunson, Cleveland’s Donovan Mitchell, and Atlanta’s Trae Young, along with Haliburton and Lillard.

While Maxey saw himself outside of the top five when it comes to fan votes, he received a favorable position in the rankings that were determined by players. Trailing only Haliburton, Maxey ranked second among Eastern Conference guards in the eyes of the players.

As for the media, Maxey ranked fourth behind Haliburton, Brunson, and Mitchell. With a weighted score of 4.5 based on the final voting results, Maxey’s chances of cracking the All-Star game as a reserve are now in the hands of the coaches.

The Sixers guard has a strong case. In 41 games, Maxey has averaged a career-high 25.8 points per game. He’s also dishing out 6.7 assists per game while turning the ball over fewer than two times.

While his three-point efficiency took a slight dip, Maxey lands in the 60th percentile for point guards in the three-point scoring category as he’s knocked down 39 percent of his threes, according to Cleaning the Glass

The NBA will finalize the All-Star rosters on Thursday, February 1.
