This week, NBA players are finding out their rankings in NBA 2K24. Earlier in the week, it became known that Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid ranks as one of the top players in the game, tying with a handful of other elite stars with the game’s second-best overall ranking.

Now, Sixers guard Tyrese Maxey is wondering where he ranks when it comes to three-point shooting.

On Friday, the NBA 2K24 official Twitter account revealed five of the game’s top three-point shooters. Maxey, who established himself as one of the most consistent long-range shooters last season, raised an important question when he realized he was left off the list.

To no surprise, Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry tops the list with a rating of 99. Being that he’s won the NBA’s Three-Point Contest on two different occasions and has a career average of 43 percent from beyond the arc across nearly 900 games, Curry is easily one of the best three-point shooters the game has ever seen.

Trailing Curry is his teammate Klay Thompson, who holds a 93 rating. Grizzlies’ Luka Kennard comes in at 92. Pacers veteran Buddy Hield is at 91, while Boston’s Malcolm Brogdon is at 89. Barring any unexpected changes, Maxey seems to be outside of the top five.

The drop-off from players like Hield and Brogdon to Maxey shouldn’t be too steep. After all, Maxey was top five in three-point percentage throughout the 2022-2023 NBA season.

Kennard led the league by knocking down nearly 50 percent of his threes on 269 attempts. Al Horford and Damion Lee both knocked down 45 percent of their threes, while Brogdon came in fourth, averaging 44 percent.

Maxey attempted 369 threes in 60 games last season. He was successful on 160 of his attempts. While shooting from deep was actually one of Maxey’s biggest knocks coming off his freshman season at Kentucky, he’s been remarkably consistent from three after averaging just 30 percent during his rookie season.

During the Sixers’ 2021-2022 run, Maxey knocked down 43 percent of his shots from deep across 75 games. In the playoffs, his average took a slight dip to 38 percent. After hitting on 43 percent of his threes in 2022-2023, Maxey shot 40 percent from three during the 2023 playoffs.

It’s clear that Maxey’s weakness at one point has become one of his biggest strengths. Now, the fourth-year guard hopes that it will be reflected in the video game this year.
