Through a four-game preseason and three regular-season outings, the Philadelphia 76ers have been fortunate to avoid dealing with any notable setbacks.

While that remains the case following the Sixers’ third matchup of the regular season against the Portland Trail Blazers, Tyrese Maxey will be somebody to keep an eye on moving forward.

During the second quarter of Sunday night’s game, Maxey went diving at a loose ball. Shortly after, he was seen grabbing at his hand numerous times throughout the remainder of the matchup.

After the game, Sixers head coach Nick Nurse revealed Maxey was dealing with a minor issue that stuck throughout the entire matchup against Portland.

“He got a little bit of the, what do you call that? The funny bone,” Nurse said after the game. “A tingling that never really went away, so I guess we’ll have to check on that, but he landed on it, and it just never went away for the whole game.”

While Maxey confirmed Nurse’s explanation, the young guard offered a positive update from his point of view after getting everything checked out.

“When I fell on the ground, my funny bone and the whole side of my hand felt a little numb,” Maxey said after the game. “I think I’ll be okay. Life goes on.”

Despite dealing with his minor setback in the first half, the Sixers didn’t go away from Maxey in the second half. Checking in for 15 minutes, Maxey managed to collect 11 points, nine rebounds, and three assists in the second half of the victory over the Blazers.

Eight of those minutes came during the fourth quarter when three of five starters got the remainder of the game off as the matchup entered blowout territory in favor of Philadelphia.

The young guard finished the night with 26 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists in 34 minutes of action.

Maxey will be a player to monitor moving forward on the injury front, but it seems the Sixers aren’t anticipating any missed games at this time. On Monday, the Sixers are getting a much-needed day off after competing in three games in four days.

They’ll return to the practice court on Tuesday and Wednesday in preparation for their matchup against the Toronto Raptors at home on Thursday.
