One of the current assistant coaches on the Milwaukee Bucks staff is reportedly one of the candidates being eyed to replace Nate McMillan, who was given the pink slip by the Atlanta Hawks.

Interest

Per a report by Shams Charamia, Bucks assistant coach Charles Lee is among those being considered to coach the Hawks.

The other candidates being considered are Sacramento Kings assistant Jordi Fernandez, Golden State Warriors assistant Kenny Atkinson, San Antonio Spurs assistant Mitch Johnson, G League South Bay's Miles Simon, and former Utah Jazz coach Quin Snyder.

History with Coach Bud and ATL

Due to his previous stint with the team, Charania described Lee as a "serious candidate" for Atlanta's head coaching opening. Interestingly, Lee's previous tenure with the Hawks was when current Milwaukee head coach Mike Budenholzer was the team's head tactician.

Budenholzer arrived in Atlanta in 2013 and coached the team until 2018 before moving to the Bucks. Lee was part of Atlanta's coaching staff from 2014-2018.

Lee was promoted to associate head coach last off-season. Aside from winning the 2021 NBA championship with the Bucks, Lee made the playoffs in seven of his eight seasons with Budenholzer in Atlanta and Milwaukee. The duo also had three Eastern Conference Finals appearances.

A native of Gaithersburg, Maryland, Lee's first coaching experience came when he was tapped by his alma mater, Bucknell University, as an assistant coach for two seasons.

As a player with the Bison, Lee was the 2006 Patriot League Player of the Year and won two Patriot League championships. Lee spent most of his professional career in Israel, Belgium, and Germany. He joined the NBA Draft in the 2006 but was left undrafted.
