“He really is special” - Adrian Griffin praises center Brook Lopez
Brook Lopez had his best offensive game this season on Wednesday night. Although his superb game did not translate into a win after the Milwaukee Bucks lost to the Boston Celtics, 116-119, coach Adrian Griffin was still pleased with the veteran's showing.
"He was terrific. Just taking what the game gives him," said Griffin.
Lopez shot 12-for-18 from the field to finish with a season-high 28 points. He also had seven rebounds, one assist, one steal, and a block in the loss.
Brook's performance against the Celtics showed why the Bucks pursued him hard to re-sign with the team during the season.
Versatile Brook
Griffin described the 10th pick by the New Jersey Nets in the 2008 NBA Draft as someone who can impact the game in so many ways.
"He's a unique player. With his size, he could shoot the three-point shot with a high percentage, and he can also face up and he's driving it to the rim. I mean, he does it all," Griffin added.
Lopez having a breakout offensive game against Boston was a welcome sight for Milwaukee as the one-time All-Star's numbers this season dipped compared to last season.
Last season, Brook was good for 15.9 points and 6.7 rebounds a game. He is only averaging 11.8 points and 5.1 rebounds 15 games into this season.
Lopez was a leading contender for the Defensive Player of the Year award last season, averaging 2.5 blocks a game. This season, the 7-foot-1 center is good for 2.9 blocks a night.
No signs of slowing down
Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard are undoubtedly the Bucks' top guns, but Lopez is seen as someone that Milwaukee also needs in its title aspirations.
Giannis causes many problems for the opposing teams, but Griffin believes Lopez can also do the same. What impresses Adrian more is that the 16-year veteran center is showing no signs of slowing down.
"He really is special. I know everyone talks about Giannis being the freak and, which he is, he's incredible. But if you look at Brook, at his size and his age and the way he continues to get better, it really is remarkable," Griffin said.
