Can the Milwaukee Bucks land Harry Giles?
Former first-round pick Harry Giles is on the comeback trail and is looking for another shot at the NBA. He recently worked out in front of representatives from numerous squads, which included the Milwaukee Bucks. Does the former Duke big man have a shot at making an NBA comeback? And could the Bucks provide that chance?
Injury-riddled career
With a 6-foot-11 frame, a chiseled physique, and athleticism to boot, Giles has always been expected to make it big in the NBA. However, knee injuries dating back to high school have hindered his professional success. He last played in the league in the 2020-2021 season when he suited up in 38 games for the Portland Trail Blazers. He played for the Agua Caliente Clippers in the G League before suffering a season-ending injury in January of 2022.
Giles appears to be healthy now and is eager to earn a roster spot on an NBA team, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
“Harry Giles, the former No. 20 pick of the 2017 draft, recently worked out for several teams in Las Vegas during NBA Summer League. Among those who sent representatives to attend the workout included the Pistons, Cavaliers, Knicks, Bucks, and Timberwolves, league sources told HoopsHype,” Scotto wrote.
Insurance policy for the Bucks
The Bucks already have a loaded frontcourt. With the re-signing of Brook Lopez, the signing of his twin brother Robin, and the presence of reserve ace Bobby Portis, there are only so many minutes to go around.
That said, Milwaukee could use Giles as an insurance policy should one of the Bucks’ bigs suffer a long-term injury. He may not get much playing time, but he would be a valuable asset to have on the roster if called upon in case of emergency. Giles has already shown flashes of his potential during stints with the Kings and Blazers, and he could be a nice addition to the Bucks’ lineup.
