Giannis Antetokounmpo doesn’t care about the hierarchy of the Milwaukee Bucks
Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo has proven he is a winner who doesn’t care about titles or hierarchy. Antetokounmpo is a leader on the court and off, but he does it without being concerned about who is in charge. He just wants to win games and make sure that everyone on his team is contributing. He emphasized this approach once again when he butted in on an interview Khris Middleton had with The Athletic.
Get the job done
Middleton was being asked how he felt now, being the team’s third option on offense with the arrival of seven-time All-Star Damian Lillard. Giannis caught wind of this and swiftly interjected before Middleton could answer, sharing:
“Stop, stop right there. So, you know what? Who gives a f--k? I've been here on the team 14 years, 12 years, 11 years, going to be 14 at the end of my contract. I've made a lot of f--king money. I won a chip for this team. At the end of the day, I'm going to get my 20, no matter what happens. They can do all the work, but I'm going to come in and do what I do. Take the ball down the stretch and score the ball. Next question,” Giannis said.
Giannis was obviously being playful, but he made his point: So long as everyone stuck to the plan, there was no need for worry. He's still in control, and nothing will change that. It shows his confidence and level of comfort with his team.
Unselfishness
Giannis has stated how willing he is to set screen after screen for Lillard to get him his shots. If a two-time MVP is willing to assume that role, it makes falling in line that much easier.
"Me being the third guy, I have no problem at all," Middleton said. "I mean, these guys are going to make my life easier. I hope I can make their life a little bit easier."
"Look, those guys, Dame and Giannis, get much of the credit, as they should. They're two of the best players that this league has ever had," Middleton quipped. "So for me, it's just coming in and trying to fit, be a role player at times. Just change roles throughout the game, whatever is needed."
