Giannis Antetokoumpo is known for his motor and ferocity on the floor. Regardless if it’s a preseason game, an All-Star exhibition, or the NBA Finals, the Greek Freak plays like there’s no tomorrow. In his own words, Antetokoumpo explains why he works hard and gives it his all every single time:

“I’m scared to lose what God has gave me and the life that I’ve provided for my kids and my brothers and for my mom,” shared Giannis.

Humble beginnings

Giannis’ rags-to-riches story is well-known at this point: born to a poor family of five in Athens, Greece, the future MVP and champion made it out with just hard work, dedication, and ambition. Despite racking up every award imaginable in the NBA—including two MVP awards—Giannis continues to play like he’s trying to make the roster, and he explains why:

“l like sometimes looking at (accomplishments from the past) stops you from going out there and chasing and being desperate. Why I’m here is because I’m desperate. I’m not as talented as Steph. I’m not as talented as KD. I’m f—— desperate. I’m obsessed,” said Giannis.

Third MVP?

Giannis is currently in the conversation for the MVP award this season alongside Denver’s Nikola Jokic, Philadelphia’s Joel Embiid, and Boston’s Jayson Tatum. He admits that winning a third MVP would be incredible, but at the end of the day, he just wants to help the Bucks become the best team they possibly can.

“Of course, I want to be one of the best. Of course, I want to compete for the championship. Of course, I want people to value me and what I bring to the table. But at the end of the day, the way I view it, the best player is — and I’ve said this since training camp, over and over again — the best player is the player that makes his team great, you know? And I just want to keep on making my team great, and hopefully more blessings come along my way.”
