“The day that I’m going to start taking charges, that is the time for me to retire” - Giannis Antetokounmpo talks about when is the right time to call it a career
Players retiring one day is inevitable, something that is already in the mind of Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The first signs
While he still has a long way to go and is expected to dominate for more NBA seasons to come, Antetokounmpo already knows when to call it a career.
In a video posted on the team’s Twitter account, Antetokounmpo was asked if he has been putting conscious efforts to draw offensive fouls.
“I was telling Thanasis, and Thanasis can tell you this. I said the day that I’m going to start taking charges, that is the time for me to retire,” Antetokounmpo said.
Antetokounmpo said seeing himself drawing offensive fouls more often is an indication that he has become a step slower.
“That’s when things are slowing down for me,” he said.
Career-season?
Of course, talking about Antetokounmpo’s retirement is still very premature. At 28 years old and in his 10th year in the league, Giannis is having one of the best seasons of his career.
The two-time MVP is currently fourth in scoring in the current season, with an average of 31.2 points per game. He is also second in rebounding with 11.9 per outing.
Recording three 50-point games, Antetokounmpo is instrumental in the Bucks strong showing this season. Milwaukee has the best record in the entire league right now, with 46 wins and only 18 losses.
One of the highlights of the Bucks’ sterling season so far was the 16 straight wins that they put together, falling four consecutive short of tying the franchise’s longest winning streak.
