Jrue Holiday says he's keen on retiring after his current deal expires
Milwaukee Bucks guard Jrue Holiday has had a long and decorated career in the NBA that began when he was just 19 years old. Although the former UCLA Bruin is just 32 years old, the two-way dynamo revealed on Andre Iguodala’s podcast that he’s keen on retiring once his current deal with the Bucks expires after the 2024-2025 season.
Retirement plan
The conversation on the podcast revolved around players’ retirement plans. The two-time All-Star chimed in, saying that he and his wife Lauren has already had conversations about it and that he’s strongly considering hanging up his sneakers once his contract with the Bucks expires.
“It’s funny cause my wife and I had this conversation; I think it was two days ago. She was like, ‘Are you serious after this contract? Are you serious about retiring?’ I’m like, 'Yes, I feel very strongly about it,'” Holiday said.
Holiday still has two years left on this contract. He’s set to earn $34 million next season, while the final year of his contract has a player option that will pay him $37 million. While many may balk at the thought of Holiday retiring when he’s clearly still in the pink of health and at the peak of his powers, it’s worth noting that there is more to life than money. In Holiday’s case, that’s family.
Family first
Holiday has been in the league for 14 seasons, and he’s achieved a great deal of success—not to mention money—on and off the court. However, he’s also shown capable of walking away from the game when his family needs him. Back in 2016, Holiday took a break from the New Orleans Pelicans to tend to his wife, Lauren, who had a brain tumor while she was pregnant. She later underwent brain surgery just weeks after giving birth to their daughter.
