As the Milwaukee Bucks' defense continues to be a work in progress, the trade deadline on February 8 could provide the team with an avenue to improve that area by acquiring a few defensive-minded players. Although the Bucks don't have many trade assets to work with, the team's front office is reportedly in talks to acquire the Dallas Mavericks' Grant Williams and the Washington Wizards' Delon Wright.

"Exploratory discussions" for Williams

NBA insider Marc Stein has reported that Milwaukee has had "exploratory discussions" to acquire the 6-foot-6 Williams, who the Mavericks acquired in the offseason via a three-team trade. Many expected the five-year pro to help shore up the Mavs' defense and three-point shooting, but that has not been the case.

Williams only averages 8.1 points on 41 percent shooting from the field, including 37 percent from long range. According to Zach Bachar of Bleacher Report, Grant was different from the player the Mavs envisioned him to be when they acquired him last summer.

"He's struggled on both ends of the floor, as his minus-5.1 net rating is the worst mark among Mavericks players averaging at least 20 minutes per game this season (via NBA.com)," Bachar wrote.

Shopping hard for help

Another NBA insider, Jake Fischer, also reported that the Bucks are looking to improve their roster at the trade deadline, with Wizards backup guard Delon Wright emerging as a potential target. The nine-year pro has built a reputation as a solid reserve guard. However, he has played sparingly this season, averaging 4.4 points on 38 percent shooting, 2.8 assists, and 2.0 rebounds in 15.2 minutes per game.

"After switching head coaches midseason, the Bucks remain committed to improving their roster, 'shopping hard for help,' as described by one league source with knowledge of the situation," Fischer shared.
