Pat Beverley speaks of the edge he brings to the Milwaukee Bucks
Veteran guard Pat Beverley is the type of player that one would love to have as a teammate but loathe to face on the court. His relentless energy and tenacity make him one of the toughest defenders in the league, earning him the nickname “Mr. 94 Feet.” And now, as a member of the Milwaukee Bucks, Beverley is ready to bring his trademark edge to help his team reach new heights.
The newest Buck recently spoke about his mentality and what he brings to the Bucks. He emphasized that he is fearless in speaking up and challenging his teammates, even if it may not always be well-received.
Unafraid to speak his mind
Throughout his 12-year career, one thing has been true of the Arkansas native: he has always stayed true to himself. Beverley is not one to mince words or sugarcoat his opinions, and he certainly won’t start now with his new team in Milwaukee. He didn’t hesitate to let his presence be known against the Charlotte Hornets, taking the coach’s board and giving instructions to his teammates.
“The way I go about things, I’m not going to make everyone happy,” Beverley said.
“I’m going to upset some people the way I hold myself at a high standard, and I expect everyone else to do the same. So, my approach is very strong until you really get to know me, but once you get to know me, you understand that, ‘Man, only thing he does is want to win.’”
Doc Rivers wanted him in Milwaukee
Milwaukee’s new head coach, Doc Rivers, and Beverley have a long history that can be traced back to their days with the Los Angeles Clippers. For all the energy and feistiness Beverley brings to every game, Rivers knows how to harness it properly.
“When Doc got the job, I was excited for him,” Beverley shared.
“Me and Doc, it’s like pops. I mean, I’ll tell y’all some crazy stories, man. Me and Doc have been in the trenches together for many, many years. So, you got your pops calling you back, and it’s all love here.”
