The Milwaukee Bucks’ Bobby Portis Jr. wins his first-ever Player of the Week honors
For the triumphant first time in his nine-year career, Bobby Portis Jr., the versatile forward of the Milwaukee Bucks, won weekly honors after he was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for Week 25 (April 3rd-9th).
The 6-foot-10 forward collared the weekly award after coming up with a strong showing in the final week of the regular season that saw him average 20.7 points and 12.3 rebounds per game while shooting a solid 44.7% from the field and an impressive 59.1% from three.
Strong week
The 28-year-old player started the week by scoring 19 points and grabbing 20 rebounds, leading the Bucks to a 140-128 win over the Washington Wizards on Tuesday.
Portis Jr. then finished with 27 points, built on a season-high six triples, and 13 rebounds to help the Bucks drub the Chicago Bulls, 105-92, on Wednesday.
That win over the Bulls allowed the Bucks to secure the overall top seed with home-court advantage in all of the playoff series they will be playing.
Portis Jr. ended the season averaging 14.1 points and a career-high 9.6 rebounds, which is 13th in the NBA.
Mr. Double-double
For this season, Portis averaged 26.0 minutes per game, shooting 49.6% from the field, which is the second-highest mark of his career, and 37.0% from three.
Portis Jr. tallied the most double-doubles off the bench this season with 23 and was ninth in the NBA with a total of 38 double-double performances.
Portis Jr. is the third Milwaukee player to win Player of the Week honors, joining Giannis Antetokounmpo (Weeks 2, 6, 15, 16) and Jrue Holiday (Week 14).
