The Milwaukee Bucks’ search for its new head coach has taken a new turn, as former Golden State Warriors head coach Mark Jackson is now in the mix. The team is set to interview the coach turned broadcaster, according to NBA insider Shams Charania.

Jackson served as the head coach of the Warriors from 2011-2014 and compiled a .526 winning percentage during that stretch. Aside from the ascendance of Steph Curry, Jackson is largely credited with helping turn the Warriors’ fortunes around.

Raring to get back into the game

Jackson steered the Warriors to the Western Conference semifinals in 2013 but lost to the San Antonio Spurs, 4-2. The next season, the Warriors once again made it to the NBA Playoffs but couldn’t get past the Los Angeles Clippers in the first round, losing Game 7 on the road. After their ouster, Jackson was given the pink slip, and not long after, Steve Kerr was brought on board, and the Warriors have not looked back ever since.

On the other hand, Jackson has not gotten a head coaching opportunity since he was fired by the Warriors. However, he was a finalist for the Sacramento Kings coaching position last year—a job that eventually went to Mike Brown, who was named this season’s Coach of the Year.

Tough act to follow

Whoever the Bucks will go with as the team’s new head coach will have some pretty big shoes to fill. After all, former coach Mike Budenholzer led the Bucks to the 2021 NBA title and was the mastermind of the Bucks squad that finished with the best record in the regular season this season. However, the team just could not deliver when the stakes were at their highest, falling to the eighth-seeded Miami Heat in the first round.
