Weekly Review: The Milwaukee Bucks have been put on notice
In light of the recent comments made by the Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo regarding how he’ll handle his upcoming contract extension, it’s clear that the Bucks need to do something in order to show their commitment to winning. With Giannis’ impending free agency looming over them and the uncertain future of the team, Milwaukee must make a statement if they want to remain competitive in the Eastern Conference. The next few months should be interesting for the franchise as they look to make moves and prove to their two-time MVP that they’re serious about competing for multiple titles.
That said, here are five stories about the Bucks that you may have missed from last week:
With sports news coverage now being round-the-clock, conversations regarding Giannis’ future in Milwaukee—or somewhere else, for that matter—will be incessant. A report has even asserted that it would be one of the most compelling storylines to monitor this coming season.
NBA player-turned-analyst Richard Jefferson kept things simple when discussing Giannis’ contract situation: The Bucks must win an NBA title in the next two years, or their longtime star may be going to a new team.
3. Is Jrue Holiday the key to keeping Giannis Antetokounmpo?
Giannis has made it clear that the Bucks must make an overwhelming commitment to winning multiple NBA championships before he even thinks of signing a contract extension. An important part of the puzzle could be re-signing All-Star point guard Jrue Holiday to a brand-new long-term contract soon.
4. The Milwaukee Bucks signed and then waived Alex Antetokounmpo
The Antetokounmpo brothers are back together again in Milwaukee after the Bucks signed and then waived the youngest of the bunch, Alex. While Giannis and Thanasis will be playing on the Bucks, Alex is expected to spend most of his time playing for the Bucks’ G League affiliate, the Wisconsin Herd.
Milwaukee Bucks guard Grayson Allen recently announced that he would be switching jersey numbers again, going from no. 12 to 3.
