While the Milwaukee Bucks came away with a couple of wins during the start of the free agency period with the re-signing of All-Stars Brook Lopez and Khris Middleton, they also now have to deal with the loss of backup guard Jevon Carter, who signed a three-year deal with the Chicago Bulls.

This development leaves the Bucks with Jrue Holiday as the team’s only legitimate point guard at the moment. This may not bode well for a Bucks squad that has had to deal with injuries that sidelined Holiday, Middleton, and even Giannis Antetokounmpo for extended periods last season.

Significant piece

The numbers may not jump off the page, but Carter played an integral role for the Bucks this past season. He averaged 8.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.4 assists while shooting an excellent 42 percent from beyond the arc. His defense was also sublime, as he often hounded opposing guards all game long. Perhaps more importantly, Carter was always ready to step into whatever role was asked of him—whether starting in place of Holiday or injecting energy off the bench.

Who will replace Carter?

According to Eric Nehm, the longtime Bucks insider for The Athletic, there are several players who the Bucks can target. One such player is Kendrick Nunn, who played 70 games for both the Los Angeles Lakers and the Washington Wizards in 2022-2023.

“Kendrick Nunn may be an interesting option. He missed the entire 2021-22 season with a bone bruise in his knee and has not looked like the player he was with the Miami Heat since returning from the injury, but he is still only 27 and may be an interesting buy-low candidate,” Nehm wrote.

Other viable candidates include Raul Neto, Duane Washington Jr., and Ayo Dosunmu.
