Giannis says he's open to playing in Saudi Arabia once his NBA career is done
Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo isn’t going to let the talk about him going to Saudi Arabia and playing there die down. This came to be after TMZ caught up with the “Greek Freak” and asked him about the prospect of him earning a paycheck in the Middle Eastern kingdom. Without batting an eyelash, Giannis blurted out, “Of course!”
A lot of money
Pressed for a figure, Giannis said that while he hasn’t put a number to it yet, he knows it would be “a lot of money.” Saudi Arabia has recently gone all in in the sports realm, investing many resources in golf and football. LIV Golf, backed by Saudi Arabia, has forged a strategic partnership with the PGA Tour, securing the country's Public Investment Fund as the primary financial supporter of top-tier professional golf events. It won’t be long before Saud Arabia dips its hands into basketball. If that happens, Giannis just may consider moving.
"If the NBA worked out, maybe like a trade between the NBA and Saudi Arabia League, I'm there," Antetokounmpo said.
Recruitment pitch
Saudi Arabia’s top football squad, Al-Hilal, has recently made the headlines with high-profile signings of football superstars Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar Jr. The team also tried to make a run at French football sensation Kylian Mbappe, reportedly offering an eye-popping $332 for just one season. While Mbappe rejected the deal, Giannis hilariously offered to take his place. Al-Hilal even created a football jersey for Giannis, welcoming him to the squad.
