“So, being a dad and a basketball player is not ideal” - Joe Ingles talks about being a father and an NBA player
They may have the highest-paying job, but as a family man, being an NBA player is never easy.
Just ask Joe Ingles, the veteran guard of the Milwaukee Bucks.
Finding the balance
In a video posted on the Bucks’ official Twitter account, the Australian gunner shared how he struggles juggling his time as a father and an NBA player.
“I have three children at home and a busy wife. So, being a dad and a basketball player is not ideal. It’s tough,” said Ingles.
Ingles is married to Renae Ingles, a former netball player. The couple has three children, twins Milla and Jacob, and their youngest, Jack.
It is known that NBA players travel a lot all-year-round that keeps them away from their families most of the time.
That’s why for Ingles, he sees to it that he makes the most of the little time that he is able to squeeze in for his family.
“I try and do the best I can when I am home and around. As many drop-offs and pick-ups to help out,” he said. “And obviously, the little time we have at home, spending as much quality time with my children as possible when I can. But it’s hard.”
Fitting in perfectly
For this season, the time that Ingles was away from his family has been so far worth it, as the Milwaukee Bucks are on a stellar run.
The Bucks have already clinched a playoff berth and are at the top of the Eastern Conference standings with a 51-20 record.
Ingles has been one of the solid contributors for the Bucks off the bench. In the 37 games that he has played so far, Ingles is averaging 7.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 0.7 steals, and 0.1 blocks in just 23.1 minutes of play.
It is indeed tough to be away from the family most of the time, but in Ingles and the rest of the Bucks’ case, the situation becomes more bearable if the sacrifices are paying off.
