The injury saga of once-promising guard Lonzo Ball has been tragic, to say the least. The second overall pick of the 2017 NBA Draft had high hopes of changing the trajectory of the Chicago Bulls when he signed with the team in 2021. He was actually on his way to doing that, as the Bulls held a 27-13 record—good for the best record in the East—util he suffered a knee injury in January of 2022.

Since then, Lonzo's career has spiraled down to the point where he will almost certainly miss his second consecutive season. Bulls guard Alex Caruso recently provided an update on Ball's recovery from injury.

Healing up

Ball has undergone three knee surgeries in less than two years, the last one being a cartilage transplant procedure in April, which he hopes would finally be the answer to his troubled knee. Predictably, Ball is focusing on healing his body before he can move on to anything else.

Speaking on Ryen Russillo's podcast, All-Defense guard Alex Caruso gave an update on his teammate's status:

"He's been great when I've seen him, as far as spirit and going to work," Caruso said. "That's kind of all you can do in that position. You can't really force anything when it comes to injuries, right? The body has to heal, and then you can get back out there and play."

One step at a time

Ball's recovery journey over the last year and a half has been marked by one setback after another. This time, though, Ball is making sure to take it slow until he's fully healed and ready to go.

"This is one of those things where it's been healing, and then I think there's been setbacks. He's trying to get back to healing again. For his sake, I hope he can just play basketball again," Caruso added.
