The Chicago Bulls showed inconsistencies this season to point that it was puzzling, to say the least, both for the players and their fans. They would look like legitimate title contenders in one game, beating stacked squads such as the Milwaukee Bucks and the Boston Celtics. Then, they would look like a lottery team the next game, losing to subpar opponents such as the Orlando Magic and the Indiana Pacers. Ultimately, the up-and-down nature of their performances was what led to their downfall this season, said guard Alex Caruso.

Inconsistency held the Bulls back

Caruso would rather still be playing right now instead of talking about the lost season they just had. After falling to the Miami Heat in the Play-in tournament, Caruso has been left to ponder on a season where there were ultimately more lows than there were highs.

"For the team, I thought we had a little bit of an up-and-down year. We beat some of the really good teams in the league and then dropped a couple contests to teams that you mark down as wins on the schedule when you're looking at it. And I think that's probably what just held us back a little was just a little inconsistency," assessed Caruso.

Sour taste

After playing a significant role in the Bulls' resurgence last season, where they made it to the NBA Playoffs as the sixth seed, the former Texas A&M star knows what his team is capable of when fully engaged and focused. However, the ebbs and flows with which the Bulls played all season long came back to haunt them, leaving a sour taste in the mouths of Caruso and his teammates.

"It's tough because we know what we were capable of when we played our best, and that's kind of the sour taste in your mouth as you go home in the middle of April rather than playing into May. So obviously, a little underwhelming and disappointing year for us, just given what we expected to be at. But I thought at certain points, we played really, really good basketball," Caruso added.
