Bulls Eye: The Chicago Bulls have a lot of questions that need answers
This offseason figures to be of great importance for the Chicago Bulls. The team's decision-makers already know what the team needs to improve on their weak points: shooting, depth, and rim protection. Despite the team's struggles this season, the Bulls still have some talented players in Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan. With that being said, it is important for the franchise to make moves this summer that will help them become a legitimate contender in the Eastern Conference.
Here are five stories that defined the Bulls this past week:
1) Report suggests Jakob Poeltl could fit in seamlessly with the Chicago Bulls
Nikola Vucevic is a fine veteran, capable of putting up a double-double in almost every game. However, his rim protection skills leave a lot to be desired. That may be why the Bulls have reportedly expressed interest in San Antonio center Jakob Poeltl.
2) Report indicates negotiations for a contract extension for Nikola Vucevic are underway
The Bulls gave up a lot to acquire Vucevic in 2020, including precious draft assets. So, it stands to reason that the team would want to lock him up long-term. According to reports, Chicago is in active negotiations with Vucevic's agent, and a deal may be completed soon.
3) Chicago Bulls cannot make big roster changes this offseason due to lack of financial flexibility
The Bulls have a lot of needs to address and not a lot of financial flexibility to do it. As a result, they are expected to make only minor changes to the roster this offseason. This could mean that Chicago will look to acquire players via trades or sign veterans on short-term deals in order to give the team a much-needed boost in talent and experience.
4) Point guards the Chicago Bulls should consider signing
Pat Beverley is expected to head to Houston while the futures of Ayo Dosunmu and Coby White are up in the air. Fortunately, there are several free-agent point guards who just might flourish in the Windy City, and the team should explore these options.
5) Should the Chicago Bulls bring back Derrick Rose?
Derrick Rose started his career in electrifying fashion with the Chicago Bulls, winning Rookie of the Year in 2009. He's since gone on to join multiple teams around the NBA after tearing his ACL in his fourth season. Although it would be a sentimental move, bringing him back could prove beneficial for both parties.
