The Chicago Bulls have had a rough go over the last season and a half. To be more specific, the team has underachieved ever since starting point guard Lonzo Ball went down with a knee injury in January of 2022. With Lonzo at the helm, the Bulls were at the top of the Eastern Conference. However, in his absence, they failed even to make the Playoffs last season, falling a game short in the Play-in Tournament. The team's general manager, Marc Eversley, knows the team's struggles without Ball, but remains optimistic, thanks to the solid development of young guard Coby White.

Unique player

Eversley knows what kind of impact Lonzo had on the Bulls, making it harder to find a suitable replacement. The team has tried to plug in numerous guards—from Ayo Dosunmu to Alex Caruso to Patrick Beverley—and received mixed results.

"He's just a unique player. And he was a terrific complement to Zach (LaVine), DeMar (DeRozan) and Vooch as we envisioned this roster," Eversley said.

Still, Eversley noted that he feels good about the team's chances this upcoming season because of White, who showed massive improvements with his shotmaking, decision-making, and defense last season.

"The guy who I'm really encouraged about from how he ended the season and what he's done this summer and what I envision of him and how good he can be going forward for this group is Coby (White)," Eversley shared.

Found his voice

Although the former North Carolina stud averaged the fewest points and least amount of minutes in his NBA career last season, it didn't stop White from making an impact for the Bulls. Whether it was giving the team a spark from the bench or hitting crucial three-pointers in late-game situations, the 6-foot-4 guard became a reliable backcourt option.

"Coby's development on the court has been terrific. His development off the court has been equally as impressive. He's found his voice. He'll challenge guys in the room. He'll be more decisive and assertive. And we need that from him," Eversley said.
