Chicago Bulls officially re-sign Ayo Dosunmu
The question surrounding young guard Ayo Dosunmu has finally been answered as the Chicago Bulls have officially re-signed the Illinois product to a three-year deal. And according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the deal is worth $21 million. The Bulls' backcourt now appears to be set with Dosunmu joining the likes of holdovers Zach LaVine, Alex Caruso, Coby White, and Dalen Terry, as well as newcomer Jevon Carter.
Fits right in
It may have taken a while, but the Bulls' decision-makers led by vice president Arturas Karnisovas have pulled off the mission of retaining everyone from last season's squad. While some may scratch their head at this approach, it adheres to Karnisovas' well-worn message of "continuity."
Aside from that, Bulls insider K.C. Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago believes that Dosunmu is the type of player that fits with Chicago's ethos.
"As a second-round pick who always plays with a chip on his shoulder, Dosunmu represents the type of player that the organization values, one who doesn't back down from any challenge and is a tough competitor who looks inward to improve," Johnson wrote.
Good business decision
There may be those who'll question the value of signing a player who will have a tough time finding substantial minutes in the Bulls' loaded backcourt, but Johnson explained that it was a terrific business decision by the franchise.
"With the salary cap rising dramatically over the coming seasons, retaining an asset at an annual average salary of $7 million--- Dosunmu's first-year salary could be less than that---is a prudent use of resources. For instance, the Bulls possess few mid-range salaries that can come in handy for matching purposes in trades," Johnson shared.
