Chicago Bulls send Dalen Terry to the G League
The Chicago Bulls have sent young guard Dalen Terry to their G League affiliate, the Windy City Bulls, in an effort to give him more reps. With the Bulls’ loaded backcourt, coach Billy Donovan decided it would be best to have Terry join Windy City with that team’s training camp starting on Monday.
Beneficial move
With the Bulls having numerous options in the backcourt, Donovan knows it will be tough to find minutes for Terry, who the team selected 18th overall in last year’s draft. As a matter of fact, Terry has played just 4 minutes and 51 seconds in two games so far this season.
The move to send Terry to the G League will be beneficial for the guard in multiple ways. He’ll get more playing time and be able to show off his skills against other professionals, giving him a chance to develop and become a better player.
“They started training camp (Monday) so with where the opportunity to play (with us) is at and the number of bodies we have, getting him started there with those guys and getting practice and scrimmages in is beneficial,” Donovan said. “They have a pretty short training camp before they start playing some games. I think that's what he needs.”
Fine line
Donovan explained that while having Terry around with the team even when he isn’t playing allows him to soak up the knowledge from experienced veterans, it’s important not to forget that he still needs to be playing actual games.
“I think it's a fine line because there is value when he isn't playing and he's here to sit there and see and watch and observe and be in shootarounds,” Donovan said. “But the overall best benefit is him just playing.”
