After battling inconsistency and unclear roles in his first three seasons with the Chicago Bulls, Coby White finally came into his own, showing off massive improvements on defense, ballhandling, and playmaking. Although the numbers don’t necessarily reflect these improvements, Bulls coach Billy Donovan also noticed it, saying:

“I think he’s really evolving into a two-way player,” Donovan said. “He’s playmaking. He’s passing. He’s driving. He’s making good decisions. He’s defending. He’s playing two ways. Whether or not he misses or makes shots, it doesn’t really make a difference. He’s impacting winning.”

Unfortunately for the Bulls, other teams around the league have also taken stock of White’s improvements and potential to be a star guard in this league.

Spurs need a solid guard

Although San Antonio has Tre Jones, who they could re-sign, Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report believes White may be the point guard the Spurs need to maximize the talent and impact of otherworldly prospect Victor Wembanyama, who is the presumptive first pick of this year’s NBA Draft.

“White, 23, could use a change of scenery after being benched by the Chicago Bulls. He’s got good size at 6’5″ and play either guard position,” Swartz wrote.

Fire sale in Washington

Reports have come out of Washington stating the Wizards are leaning towards a rebuild. If that were to happen, White just might be the ideal candidate to take over the playmaking chores of the Wizards if the team deals away star wingman Bradley Beal.

“White, 23, could play a big role for Washington if Bradley Beal is moved as well,” Swartz added.
