Chicago Bulls unveil "City Edition" jerseys inspired by the Chicago Municipal Y
In a nod to their city's rich history, the Chicago Bulls have unveiled their "City Edition" jerseys for the 2022/23 NBA season. The new uniforms are inspired by the Chicago Municipal Y — the symbol introduced by the city of Chicago back in 1917 to represent the north, south, and main branches of the Chicago River and their confluence at Wolf Point.
An homage to Chicago's world-famous architecture
As an ode to the city's renowned architecture, this season's "City Edition" uniforms feature several details of the Chicago Municipal Y. This includes a repeated background pattern of "Y" seen throughout the uniform.
"Introduced in 1917, the historic symbol (Y) is one of unity, representing the three branches of the Chicago River that stretch across the city and unite at Wolf Point, the heart of Chicago's downtown," the Bulls explained.
Instead of the Bulls' usual shade of red, the "City Edition" utilizes a rust hue to "reflect the color of bridges in downtown Chicago that stretch across the Chicago River." The "C" seen on the waistband of the shorts represents the city of Chicago
And finally, there are rust-colored "Y" symbols with two sets of five lines that go down the side of the shorts. These signify "the number of players from each team on the court, run down the sides of the uniform and branch off at the shorts, mimicking the split of the Chicago River."
When will this debut?
Fans won't have to wait long to see a glimpse of these uniforms live in action as the team will wear these during a home game on November 18 against the Orlando Magic, led by the No.1 pick of the 2022 NBA Draft Paolo Banchero.
The "City Edition" jersey will also be worn on Dec. 10 vs. the Dallas Mavericks, January 13 vs. the Oklahoma City Thunder, February 24 vs. the Brooklyn Nets, March 3 vs. the Phoenix Suns, and during the Bulls' final regular season home game vs. the Detroit Pistons on April 9.
