With the Chicago Bulls set to miss guard Lonzo Ball for a huge chunk of the season, the often asked question in training camp has been who will take his spot in the starting five? Young guard Coby White doesn't seem to mind what the answer to that question will be, as he is primed to fill whatever role will be asked of him this season.

White's versatility will be crucial

Bulls head coach Billy Donovan has announced that the starting point guard position will be decided in training camp. Although Ball's absence is massive, Chicago is fortunate to have a bevy of guards capable of running the point until Ball returns. Aside from White, there's Alex Caruso and the newly-signed Goran Dragic. White asserted that he'll be ready wherever Donovan deems he should be.

"I take pride in being able to play multiple positions, so that's nothing new to me. I've been doing that since I've been here," said White.

A versatile 6-foot-5 guard who's a product of the University of North Carolina, White relayed that he'll play small forward if he has to.

"Wherever they want me at. I always say as long as I'm getting minutes and on the floor I don't really care," White added.

Busy offseason

After dealing with inconsistency throughout his third season in the league, the 21-year-old hunkered down in the offseason and worked on his game.

"I was just happy I could get a summer where I could work on my game with the people I wanted around me," White said.

As the 2022-2023 season unfolds, Donovan said he would rely on White's multi-faceted game.

"The one thing we had talked about going into the summer, and this was even after we signed Goran (Dragić) and Andre (Drummond), is like, 'Listen. There's a lot of things you do. It doesn't need to always be, you gotta be at the point, you always gotta be at the two,'" Donovan said of White.

"'You've gotta play to your strengths.'

The work he put in during the offseason will be put to the test as he battles for playing time this season. But with White's willingness to play any role asked of him, it seems like he has already won half the battle.
