Coby White’s shooting has been like night and day this season. Thrust into the starting lineup as the Chicago Bulls’ new point guard, the former Tar Heel, struggled to find his rhythm and, in the process, had difficulty finding the bottom of the net. He began the season shooting 37 percent from the field, including an abysmal 29 percent from long distance.

However, the last nine games have been a different story for the 6-foot-5 guard, as he has been shooting the lights out.

Just hooping

The numbers tell the story - 22.9 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game while shooting 51 percent from the field, including a sizzling 55 percent from three-point land. White explained that nothing had changed in his approach to the game; he’s just been in an incredible groove lately.

“I’m just hoopin’,” White said.

“At the end of the day, I feel like the start of the season. The only difference is between now and back then, one is my level of comfort I have in the offense, and two, I didn’t hit shots at the beginning of the year. That’s really the only difference.”

With Zach LaVine sidelined for an extended period, White has helped pick up the scoring slack and is playing the best basketball of his professional career.

“I feel like I was doing a lot of other things at the beginning of the year. I just didn’t hit as many shots as I wanted to. I don’t know how many games (lately) I’ve been hitting shots,” White continued.

Continue working

Despite his success this season, White says he’s got a long way to go to become the best that he can be. More than anything, the numbers that matter most to the North Carolina product are the ones on the win column.

“I’ll continue to grow in that area, but I have a long way to go. So, I’ll continue to work at it every day. It’s about wins and losses, and tonight we came up a little bit short,” White shared after the Bulls lost to Milwaukee on Monday.

“Approach each game the same way and try to stay consistent in the way I prepare for games, and that’s it. I just go out there and hoop.”
